On April 20th, our city along with Boulder Colarado, New Zealand, and France will partake in one of widespread countercultural holiday where people gather to celebrate and consume cannabis – aka sweet ol’ Mary Jane.
Last year there was an estimated 10,00 people gathered around Vancouver Gallery to celebrate this important day which police didn’t even attempt to make any arrests. After a little bit of classic google researching (aka wiki) I found out that this day originated back in 1971. The 420 term originated froma group fo teeneagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California which teens woudl meet after school at 4:20pm to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur Statue.
