justalilhype! got at Marcus Scott aka King Moke from False Creek. Representing various aspects of our city and growing up all his life at the creeks, he tells us what it takes to hold up the “C” sign. Marcus also shares his insight about life in general and discusses topics from swag to girls. He shares his goals to us as he talks about how getting in trouble when he was young was, in turn, one of the events that inspired him to do better in life, to become a police officer and guard the city when he grows up.

Describe yourself to our readers

My name is Marcus Scott, 5’9, 140. Straight outta False Creek. Going to Langara right now. Trying to become a cop to make my life better. I got into some trouble when I was a young cat and just trying to make my life better. All elementary school times from kindergarten to Grade 7 was False Creek. Moved into Fraser Academy, then went to H-Town. Didn’t do too well there. Came back to Canada, got expelled. Then went to Kits and graduated. Now I am in Langara, hopefully going into SFU.

Describe your code name and what does it mean?

King Moke, Loc Moke, or just Moke, kingmokafuckingfrappachino. I got Moke when I was a yound kid in False Creek Elementary School. Since I was half black, half white, I didn’t really fit in with the black kids and ended up with the white kids. That was mocha and people just called me Moke.

What was the inspiration to become a cop to serve justice to the community?

Back then I used to go to a private school Fraser Academy. I got into some trouble there and was about to get expelled. I had to get my family in for a big meeting and they were talking about what I will be doing for the rest of my life. I didn’t have a criminal record and I also don’t want to work in an office environment. I want to do something to help the community and police was the right job.

Describe your daily life, what do you wake up to?

I get up, have myself some fruit loops. Then I take the new trolley system, which is dope. I take it to the Canada Line, and then from there to Langara. Do my school shit. Come home. Work out. Play ball. Regular shit.

What are some of your hobbies and interest outside of school?

Ball, friends, girlies. Regular Vancity kid shit.

Describe the average Creeker. What defines someone from False Creek?

The average creeker would be just unique kid that reps his hood. Likes green. Martian Crew. All that shit. We are definitely a different breed compared to the other Van-cats.

Describe your swag. How do you stay fresh?

It’s hard when you are poor like me but I try to keep my shoes fresh. I try to keep everything fresh, keeping myself HYPEd.

What’s the perfect girl?

Perfect girl for me, has to be black. Has to be black man! Black girls, they got that booty, they got beautiful bone structure, and you know I like ‘em white girls too. White girls…Asian girls… any race, I love you.

When meeting girls, what do you look for the most?

Face and ass. I need a girl with a good face and ass.

Speaking of music, how does it inspire you and what artists do you look up to?

Well, right now I am listening to Currency, the hot splitter. If you don’t know, check him out; he’s a cat out of New Orleans. I also listen to the Cool Kids because my cousin grew up with one of the members, Mickey. I love to support them.  And any dope Hip Hop crew that aint doing that Souja Boy shit.

Describe the nightlife scene of Vancouver.

It’s dope! But I am 18 so I gotta sneak in, and I still look pretty young. It’s good from what I seen from outside of the bar, but haven’t seen inside yet. I don’t know, you tell me.

While growing up, do you ever get called on your baby face? How do you cope with that?

Always man, I probably still look I am 13 right now and I am 18. I don’t care man. I still get mine.

How does that work towards girls.

I don’t know man. Some girls like it because I am cute. But it can be a disadvantage because they think I am younger and they don’t want to be involved with the little kid or whatever but I get mine and ask anyone in the Creek, I get mine.

Who’s one of your idols you look up to in life in general?

Definitely Malcolm X, Rest in Peace. Man, I loved Martin Luther but at that time, I think at that time we needed a strong guy that didn’t just wanted to do peace walks and wanted to fight. Malcolm X is my main man.

Describe your attitude of life man.

My attitude of life is that you only live once, might as well live the best of it. Go out there and have fun.

Favorite places to hit up in Vancouver.

Probably the False Creek Courts, False Creek Community center and all of downtown. I love downtown.

Have you ever traveled to a different place in the world that you think has aspects that should be brought down to Vancouver?

I use to live in Houston, for a year and a bit. I don’t know. I think Vancouver is one of the best cities. I think other cities need to bring in Vancouver shit to their city. Van’s beautiful.

In the future as you work towards your goal of becoming a cop, it is given that holding that position requires you to abide to strict rules. How do you stay true to the game while maintaining your swag?

You know, staying true the game. Don’t be a snitch. I don’t get in too much trouble anymore; it’s not that hard for me. I am not smoking anymore, I am not jacking people, but I use to do all that shit. Just keep doing what I am doing right now I guess.

What advice do you have for upcoming cats?

Alright, advice to new cats, don’t just go to Livestock or Goodfoot and get what you see people wearing. Get shit that you like, get shit that looks good on you. Don’t get shit because Pharrell is wearing that or The Clipse is wearing that. Get the shit you like.

What goals in the upcoming year?

Stay out of trouble and stop being so distracted. Get good grades and hopefully get a girlfriend soon. I am single. Holla at me.

There’s always haters in the game, what do you have to say to them?

Fuck you haters man. I know the False Creek is a tiny little hood. “Why you rep Falsecreek? Why don’t you rep Van?” False Creek is like it’s own community. We should have our own zip code, area code, all that shit. And to you haters, fuck y’all. On the other hand, shout out to my False Creek Crew: Dubs, Rem, Money, K Dogg, Stass, A.J, Nate Dogg, Karim, Chris M, C – Trav and my lil bro Aidan

What is HYPE?

HYPE is King Moke from False Creek, there you go. I am HYPE.
