Hasan got a chance to sit down and chat with Amie, a cheer leader, athlete, and also a marketing student in Vancouver. She does a lot inside and outside school. Read about why Amie is not just a ordinary girl, but a HYPE G!

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Okay… Where do I begin? I am very involved in a lot of different things. For example, I’m pretty athletic; I was the captain of my volleyball team in high school and I also played on the basketball and soccer team. I was also captain of the cheerleading team and we did really well in our division. We won all four competitions that year. I also did cheerleading for the Vancouver Trojans, which is a minor league football team. After that, I became part of the BC Spartans Cheer and Dance team, which is a semi-pro team in an American league that was undefeated until the very last game. I am a lifeguard at Killarney Community Centre for over 3 years now and I also work at the new ice rink. Currently, I go to school at Capilano University and I will be going to BCIT next year for the Marketing program. I’m just involved in many random things, for example, I also sang the anthem for our home football games.  Three friends and I started a dance team in high school called Mainuhvent and as a result of that, three years later, the school actually has a dance program. I was just one of those people that did everything; I was the chief editor of the annual club, or P.A. girl for Student Council. I also play the guitar and the piano and I really love to eat. I love the Canucks, I’m definitely their number one fan. I was even on the front page of the Canucks website for a while!
What do you foresee for the Canucks this season?
Complete victory!! (laughs) Since the team hasn’t been finalized, I’m not too sure who’s on the team but a lot of players that I thought were an asset to the team are back to play, like Kevin Bieksa, Kyle Wellwood and the Sedin twins, which are my favorite players. And we also have one of the strongest goalies in the league, Luongo, who is going be with us for the rest of his life, pretty much. I think every year we get closer and closer, but this year we have a good chance to go even further. We’ll definitely be division champs though. Oh! And I’m part of Canuckz.com too!
What/Who inspires you to do what you do?
My friends and family. More so my mom, knowing her story of how she came here from the third world and built her life from the ground up. It’s just very inspiring cause she worked so hard and still continues till this day. Also, I encounter things everyday that makes me realize that I take many things for granted. Just seeing my mom doing things, like wow, she did that? Its just very inspiring. There are so many things and people that don’t realize they are inspiring, just because of the lifestyle or the things they do that are so natural to them.  It makes me want to be a better person.  Better for myself, my friends, my family, for everyone.
What’s a typical week like for you?
I usually work two to four days a week at the swimming pool, teaching lessons, which i really enjoy because I loooooove kids. Sometimes, I also work at the ice rink. I also go to school during the weekdays.. I work for a sports league called SPORTS604, which offer a lot of sports like dodgeball, california kickball, volleyball, and basketball, but right now its just dodgeball which runs Thursday nights. Besides all my regular priorities, there are many other things that come up as the week goes on, but we won’t get into that.
What kind of guys are you attracted to?
I like guys that are very family-oriented. I like guys who are well rounded as well as those who are down to earth. Also I like guys who have goals in life, who have more to achieve and always want to constantly improve. I guess they’re things that reflect my own personality.
What turns you on and what turns you off?
SWEAT PANTS! I love guys when they’re totally scrubby, cause my favorite color is sweatpants grey. Also, guys who take good care of themselves and have good hygiene. Hah! And what turns me off? Well.. guys who are full of themselvs, who look down upon people, who belittle other people(I guess that’s people in general), who don’t know how to have fun and let loose, and who like to up everyone else just for the sake of it.
If you ever feel down, what jump starts you back up again?
I have a couple of songs that I call my happy songs, which are just really weird country songs, or random hip-hop or R&B songs or Motown. For example, the song Ben by Michael Jackson, Secret Smile by Rascal Flatts, also a country song called Great Day to Be Alive. But I believe that the best way to up your spirits is straight up good company. I’ve been through a lot of rough times and I found that the best way to get happy is to surround yourself with good company.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“Get over it.”
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
God, I hope I’m married with children and a good career but also very very happy. But I hope that my life involves traveling and sight seeing around the world. I hope to have a career high up in the marketing business industry, but am not too sure what exactly. I want a job that integrates everything, something to do with marketing and planning events. I like the pressure and I love having all he responsibility that comes with it cause I know I can get everything done.
What’s the best thing about Vancouver?
Besides the fact that it’s home, I just love Vancouver’s accessibility. You have the mountains where you can ski/snowboard and then you can literally drive for an hour and get to the beach. Not many places have that kind of accessibility. And now we have a new skytrain line, and basically our infrastructure is pretty good. Am not too into the nightlife but I guess its not too bad here either.
If there one thing you can change about Vancouver, what would it be?
Rate of violence and crime. Its difficult to change because our law is very weak. It’s really easy for people to do whatever they want, it feels like the city is kind of open and free. I actually wanted to be a cop in high school; I even took an awesome training camp called Vancouver Police Department Student Challenge.
How do you feel about the nightlife in Vancouver?
Well… Its always someone’s birthday and eventually you just have to pick and choose which one you want to go to, otherwise you’d be out almost every night. There are clubs that I refuse to go to for certain reasons. I think it’s good to get out once in a while with good company, but if you go with bad company then it could be very disastrous. I also like to go out to the movies once in a while, but other than the nightlife and clubbing, there is not much to do.
What’s your favorite food?
Since am such a big fan of food, I don’t really have any favorites. If I were to choose the top five they would be: nachos with extra cheese and jalapeño’s hold the olives, hot dogs, McDonalds French fries (when they’re properly cooked-whatever that means), pasta, and sushi, of course. My favorite sushi place is KITA across from Gold’s Gym in Burnaby.
If you didn’t live in Vancouver, where would you be?
Australia. I am definitely a summer girl, I love the summer and I wish it could be around all year long. I like to surf, so I can do all the surfing I want there. Its very laid back there, maybe it was cause I was on vacation but I don’t know, I just love the vibe.
What is HYPE to you?
It’s a feeling.  That feeling that is almost ineffable that the best you can do is express is in any other way other than words.  Jump up and down, squeal, do cartwheels until you throw up, hug everyone around you in a ten-person radius–whatever fancies you.  Basically feelings that are just on the up, rising and rising and it fills you up and you become hyped on life. I think it’s healthy to get hyped because getting hyped means you know that there’s something better that’s just waiting to happen–the next step is getting there.
