Briefly introduce yourselves to our readers.
Hi Guys! My name is Samantha. I am currently a 3rd year student at SFU and I am planning to major in Psychology. Random facts: I can’t whistle, I’m a black belt in Taekwondo, I’m a figure skater, I love pasta, and I like artsy things…
How did you get into modeling? And at what age? How did you start modeling?
I started off by sending in self-taken pictures for a Facebook modeling competition called: “Strike a Pose.” I first heard about it from my friend who was in it for the first season. After seeing how the competition worked, I decided to try out and ended up tying for second place. After the competition, I signed on with an agency called “Luxe” and started to get jobs there. This all started about a year ago, and since then- I came a long way.
How has your life been changed due to modeling? What are your future modeling goals?
My life hasn’t changed a whole lot. I’m still the same girl inside and out, maybe a little more famous. Haha I feel more confident in myself now and I feel flattered when someone comes up to me and say: “Hey aren’t you that girl that models for WRONGWROKS” or “aren’t you the girl in that magazine?” – I hope that modeling will take me somewhere in the future. There are still many things I need to work on and experience. This is just the beginning- I promise.
If modeling has the power to change one thing in the world, what would that be?
I want to inspire people to feel comfortable in their skin, with the way they look. Sometimes I think people are too into their appearance and try to fit a certain body type.
What is the largest misconception the public has with models or modeling?
The largest misconception the public has with models is that all models are stuck-up on their looks or are anorexic or bulimic. Just get to know me, and then you’ll see!
What guys are you attracted to? What guys do you dislike?
My weakness would be a guy that can make me laugh. Not just the knock-knock-who’s there, kind of laugh but the “ROFL LOL” kind of laugh. I am attracted to gentlemen. Straight up, guys that will help you open doors or guys with manners. I am also into guys that are adventurous because I like to try different things! I dislike guys that are arrogant or guys that think they can buy the world with money.
If you could live anywhere else, where would it be and why? Have you been there before?
If I could live anywhere else, it would probably be New York. I am a city girl and I love shopping. I watch a lot of TV shows like Gossip Girls and Sex in the City – those probably inspired me to want to live the rich and famous, glamorous lifestyle. Unfortunately, I have never been there before, but I can only imagine what it would be like.
What or who inspires you?
Art inspires me to be creative.
What advice would you give to people who want to get into modeling?
I would tell them to learn from experience; do not waste money on courses or lessons.
Where can you be spotted on the weekends? What’s fun in Vancouver?
On the weekends, you can usually spot me at the malls: either running errands or shopping! You should drop by Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club, Cliffhanger Vancouver (Rock Climbing Gym), or let Capilano Suspension Bridge take your breath away!
What is HYPE?
I would describe HYPE as a feeling of excitement, something that would keep you on your tippy toes.

We had the chance to sit down with Samantha, a student and model within Vancouver. From submitting photos to online modeling contests to modeling for local fashion designers, Samantha shares her interests and discusses about her passion in modeling.
