STREETS OF NEW YORK FASHION SHOW

RC Palmer Secondary School’s Grad Committee did a fashion show exhibiting various brands and styles, which could be reflected upon the theme of the city of New York. Mona, and Fion, the event coordinators of the night talks about the concept behind this night!

The Streets of New York Fashion Show showcased various styles and forms of fashion. From street wear to prom dresses. The coordinators of the event collaborated with various sponsors for this to happen. MC Sunny Sandhu and Mark Kol kept the audience alive the whole night. During intermissions, there were many great performances. Singers, musicans and dancers were on the stage entertaining the crowd of supportive students, friends, teachers and parents. The performers list includes: Jamie Russel, Sergio Escueta, Xcentrix and Jerelyn Duo.

What is the concept behind the name “Streets of New York”?

The year before, we had a school trip to New York and we thought it would be cool to make this city as our theme; it just came up randomly.  Also, New York is all about fashion and when you step out on the streets, everyone is trendy and fashionable.

How were the models of the show selected?

Well we basically posted a list and made a few announcements for tryouts.  We chose the models based on how comfortable they were on the runway, how comfortable they were in front of an audience, and how creative they were with their walk.

Where do the proceeds for this Fashion show go to?

All of the proceeds we collected from this fashion show went toward lowering the costs of RC Palmer’s grad events.

How did you manage to come in collaborate with various sponsors?

We typed up a few letters for the clothing stores and discussed the idea of the fashion show with them and also the ways they could benefit.  We also emailed and called other businesses for things such as gift cards, hair styling and make up. Overall, I am very grateful for the amount of participating sponsors.

Does the Fashion show represent actual fashion style within the school?

Mona: As we chose items of clothing we tried to choose things that students in the school would want to purchase after the show so we ended up picking outfits that were casual, dressy or just something that could be worn on a night out.

Fion: I believe so. When choosing the clothes we made sure that the models were comfortable in wearing it and that it matched them and their personalities.  The models themselves immediately gave the outfits their own style.

What is the biggest challenge at planning this whole event?

The day of the fashion show had to be the most challenging. There was so much to do from picking up clothes to setting up the stage, dressing and hair/makeup stations. It was also really difficult getting the models to walk out onto the runway quick enough so that there weren’t any long breaks between them.
